Match Report by Jonathan Rae:

Greenfield suffered their first loss of the league campaign in embarrassing style against Edmonton. The weather was extremely bad, high winds and miserable. Both sides complained before the start. Unfortunately after this there was only one team ready to play. Edmonton won the toss, and put Greenfield into bat, and took full advantage of the conditions

Assad Jameel produced a masterful display in the conditions with his left arm pace. Taking 6 for 9 he bamboozled the Greenfield batsman with his inswing and leg cutters. Wicket after wicket fell to the dismay of all, and a miserable afternoon continued as the Edmonton team could not believe their luck. Fortunately the last and only successful partnership of the Greenfield innings doubled our score. Zaufer and Hemant took the fight back to Edmonton in great style. Unfortunately, the Greenfield innings was wrapped up when Hemant was adjudged lbw rather unfairly to a ball that would have struggled to hit the stumps if it was twice as high. Greenfield was bowled out for 54 runs.

After a quick motivational speech and turnaround, Greenfield set about the almost impossible task of bowling Edmonton out for under 54. With some good bowling and sharp bowling changes, Greenfield managed to get 3 wickets down for 28, but it proved to be too much. On a positive note Greenfield fielded really well, and kept our heads up even when it was obvious that we were not going to win the game.

Man of the Match, Zaufer Marikar was the only batsmen to come out of this with any credit, and batting at no. 11. A great attempted catch at slip deserve recognition. A note of praise to Assad Jameel of Edmonton for his incredible 9-3-9-6 performance in such terrible conditions.

Thoughts and comments: Weather is unpredictable here in Edmonton. The strange thing is that it is the same conditions for both sides. We have to learn to play under these conditions and get on with the game. Although this was a great disappointment, it would be a shame not to learn from this experience for the rest of the season. We should concentrate more when batting. Even if the runs don't come for a while, someone has to stay there and play an anchor role and let the rest of the team bat around him. Although a big disappointment, I hope we will not subject ourselves to this situation again this season.
